The idea

The future won’t be built by children who memorize.

Early childhood classrooms are full of activities. Activities keep children busy. They don’t necessarily teach a child what to do when something doesn’t work.

Innovation Advantage™ was written the other way round. Every lesson starts with a problem a four-year-old can genuinely care about, and ends with the child deciding what they’d change. The content varies — birds, bridges, water, shadows, shops. The cycle never does.

Why a repeating cycle

A child who meets a new structure every week learns the structure. A child who meets the same structure every week learns to use it. By the end of the year, children start reaching for the steps without being led through them.

Why it matters for teachers

One cycle is one thing to learn. A teacher new to early education can deliver a strong CAPE lesson in their first weeks, because the shape of the lesson is always the same — only the challenge changes.

The Bird Feeder Challenge

C · Challenge

“The birds outside our window have nothing to eat this winter. How can we help them?”

A · Analyze

Children watch which birds visit, talk about what they eat, and test which materials can hold seeds.

P · Produce

Each child designs and builds their own bird feeder from recycled materials.

E · Evaluate

They watch which feeders the birds actually use — and redesign the ones that didn’t work.

Notice what the child does in the last step. They don’t find out whether they got it right. They find out what the birds did — and then they change it. That’s the whole curriculum in one move.
